Skiing in St. Anton, Austria
St Anton am Arlberg is a village in Tyrol, western Austria, with a population of 2,800. It is well known around the world as the host of the Alpine World Skiing Championships in 2001 and as one of the world's most famous international winter sports and a summer resort. Skiing has a long history in this village: even before World War I, the first skiing teachers were employed at St. Anton. St. Anton offers the best expert skiing in the Arlberg region, and the most lively apres-ski scene. It is part of the Arlberg alliance of ski resorts in a region that includes more 82 cable cars and ski lifts, 260 km (160 miles) of groomed pistes and 184 km (114 miles) of deep-snow runs. A pedestrian zone forms the center of the town. Slope-side apres-ski bars, such as Krazy Kanguruh and Mooserwirt, can be found on the Steissbachtal trail just above St. Anton. A more subdued apres-ski scene exists in the numerous pubs and cafes in town. Other ski areas are Stuben and St. Christoph, a hamlet that became famous in the 14th century when the shepherd Heinrich Findelkind built a hospice as a shelter for traveler crossing the Arlberg pass to the Vorarlberg province.

Thank you for planning a spectacular ski trip to St. Anton, Austria for us. It was my first ski vacation in Austria & it is one I will never forget! Your choice of hotel in the quaint village of St. Anton, Hotel Fahrner, was wonderful. From the picturesque views of the village, the comfort of the spacious room, the 5-course gourmet dinners, to the friendly and helpful staff, the Hotel Fahrner was perfect in every way. Your suggestion for lunch at the ice bar on the mountain at 7000' was right on....the picnic tables in the sun with the music, gluhwein, awesome views & camraderie of fellow skiers was one of the highlights.
I am so happy that you suggested several days of sightseeing at the end of the ski week. Garmisch-Partenkirchen is a very picturesque and historic town. We enjoyed walking through the narrow, cobblestone streets, exploring the quaint shops and sampling the delicious food (and beer, of course!). Our visit to the Olympic Ski Stadium was one of the highlights there as were the incredible views of the Zugspitz. Then on to Munich and the Glockenspiel, Hofbrauhaus, Rathskeller and Victualienmarket. What an amazing city, so full of history, culture and friendly people.
Your choice of hotels in all 3 locations was perfect. We appreciated all of your helpful hints and suggestions on what to see and do. We could tell that you had been there and that made such a difference. We are already talking about our next ski trip and are inviting family and friends to join us. After seeing our pictures and hearing our stories, they are ready to go. Can't wait to see what destination and suggestions you'll have for us for our 2008 ski trip! Thanks again for planning a memorable ski trip for us. The mountain village of Zermatt is one of the great ski and climbing centers of the world. Nestled in a deep valley enclosed between steep mountains, it is dominated by the huge and gracefully curved pyramid of the Matterhorn. From the moment you step off your train, and catch sight of the cobbled streets and horses with sleighs, you know you are in a special place. What strikes most people often is the silence. There are no cars here. This immediately creates a welcoming atmosphere. The air is fresh and alpine. Most everyone is on foot, locals and visitors alike. The main street bustles with pedestrians. There are no impersonal tour buses belching out noise, fumes, and package tourists. Zermatt is no auto through-route. The train stops here. All journeys on from here are on foot or ski. Zermatt has: - 29 mountains soaring over 4000m (13,100ft) - Nine of the ten highest mountains in Europe - the highest (ski) lift in Europe - Klein Matterhorn (Gobba di Rollin) 3899m (12,830ft) - the largest summer skiing area in the Alps (all year 9 ski lifts / 25 km runs) - the longest winter skiing season in Europe (late November to early May) - the longest consistently open ski run in Europe (Klein Matterhorn to Zermatt 13 Km - open late November to mid April) Testimonial:

Switzerland Ski Adventures - Ski trip to Zermatt
The original home of skiing, Switzerland is rapidly being rediscovered by skiers and boarders everywhere. It is easy to see why - when it comes to quality Switzerland really delivers! The Swiss have been very busy investing in new lifts and snow making machinery, improving the ski areas and building some of the best board parks in the alps. In the heart of the alps and dominated by famous peaks such as the Eiger, Jungfrau and the Matterhorn, the ski areas of Switzerland are characterised by long runs, beautiful scenery, reliable snow and some serious challenges. And once the lifts have stopped the fun continues - top apres ski bars abound - many with rocking live music. All the resorts offer plenty of excellent shopping opportunities and the quality of the restaurants is second to none - the best of all European cuisine is served here!
ZERMATT:
You must tire of the accolades: Awesome trip to Zermatt... Excellent choices for hotels (rooms were located perfectly, also clean and bright).... Glacier Express worth the trip alone... Most beautiful place I've been to thus far.
We can't thank you enough for your insight and advice. It is very obvious that "you've been there, done that" and speak from experience. Your suggestions on what to do/what not to do were invaluable. It really was superb. Had "Blue Bird" days, over three feet of snow, skiing truly suffered as the "apres" begins around noon...what fun! some cold weather, but all of it was relaxing, never felt hurried and was constantly overwhelmed by the scenery. Airports and train stations were clean, spacious; Local beer and wines were outstanding; food was great! I could go on all day! Thanks again. Can't wait to book our next!
